Scholarships / Work Study

Living Jazz has a commitment to work towards keeping Jazz Camp West accessible to all students regardless of their financial position. Therefore, we provide at least 20% of our participants financial aid based solely on financial need, not experience or age. So that our awards go to people who really need them, please honestly assess your personal financial situation before applying.

If granted scholarship/work study, camper will be required to work 1 hour per day of camp. All work study positions are discussed on the first day of camp.

Living Jazz is honored to provide scholarship support through the Bill Graham Memorial Scholarship Fund and individual support. Living Jazz also provides financial support through several memorial scholarships funds established in memory of beloved family members.

Interested students MUST inquire on or before May 15. Scholarships/work-study positions are available to all students, regardless of age, interest, or level of experience. The Gabriel Trupin Memorial Scholarship Fund supports scholarships specifically for dance students. If you are applying for a scholarship, please do not fill out a regular enrollment form. Also please do NOT send in a deposit with your application. Deposits are non-refundable. If you are not awarded financial aid, at that point, you are welcome to fill out a regular enrollment form if your situation permits.

Important Information Regarding Scholarships

Along with filling out your scholarship application, YOU MUST also provide:

  1. A brief explanation of your current financial situation, why you need financial aid, why you want to come to camp and if you have any special skills you can offer us during the week at camp.

All of our scholarship awards are considered work-study positions. If you receive financial help, you will be asked to participate by helping with a chosen task that will not take more than a total of 1 hour a day. These tasks include helping move the tables in the dining hall to prepare the room for our dance classes, piano crew, moving equipment, camp store support, clean-up crew, etc. All work-study students must stay approximately 2 extra hours on the final day to help close up camp. You should be ready to go home around 4-5 pm on the final Saturday. If you are able to arrive a day early, and stay late to help set-up and break down camp, give us a call to let us know. People interested in this should either be familiar with putting together drum kits or be strong enough to help move music equipment.

A work-study meeting will be held on the first day of camp before dinner to assign work-study jobs and answer any questions.
