Jam Camp West 2025 Co-Counselor

Are you interested in working with children ages 10-17 in the great outdoors for a week filled with creativity and music? Come join Living Jazz as one of our Co-Counselors during our annual Jam Camp 2025 in Loma Mar with a diverse group of dedicated individuals committed to creating a safe, nurturing space for our young artists to be inspired!
The Jam Camp West Co-Counselor program is designed to provide young individuals with hands-on experience and training in camp counseling. Co-Counselors will work closely with Counselors and experienced camp staff to develop leadership skills, gain practical knowledge in working with children, and contribute to the overall camp experience. This position offers a unique opportunity for personal growth, mentorship, and the chance to make a positive impact on campers' lives.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Age Requirement: Jam Camp West co-counselors are high school students or young adults between the ages of 18-20.
Interest in Youth Development: Genuine interest in working with children and a passion for helping them learn, grow, and have fun.
Communication: Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Teamwork: Ability to work well in a team and collaborate with colleagues.
Enthusiasm: Positive attitude, energy, and enthusiasm for camp activities and working with campers.
Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing situations and take on various responsibilities as needed.
Interest and comfort in working in a highly diverse setting with both children and adults.
Familiarity with Living Jazz, Jam Camp West, and/or Jazz Camp West a plus.
Physical Requirements
This position performs its duties both indoors and outdoors exposed to seasonal weather temperatures for the duration of the scheduled shift and must be able to perform the following duties with or without accommodation:
Stand, sit, kneel, walk, bend, and perform repetitive motions as needed for outdoor activities.
Traverse safely throughout the entirety of the campgrounds
Safely lift, move, and transport items weighing up to 35 lbs. in and out of vehicles.
See and respond quickly to situations.
Ability to hear and speak clearly to direct campers and co-counselors.
Able to participate in games, sports, and physical activities
Able to maintain attention and high level of energy or excitement for extended periods of time.
Must be able to spend the majority of time outdoors in the camp setting.
Compensation & Benefits
This is a seasonal position scheduled from Saturday, July 12th through Friday, July 18th, 2025, and includes an overnight mandatory training starting on Friday July 11 starting at 10am.
CA Labor Code §1182.4(a) provides that student employees, camp counselors and program counselors are exempt from minimum wage and overtime requirements. This is a volunteer position with a stipend of $100 for one week of service at Jam Camp West, plus room and board.
